I have a lot of clients who hire me for computer services. Typically the most common problems they face are computer crashes or malfunctioning. I frequently told them that most of the problems could be avoided had they used an anti virus program. In this article I will tell you how to cure your virus infected computer and where to get the best antivirus software.
While there are many anti virus softwares out there, it is hard to know which one works and which doesn’t, especially if you are new to computers. Over the years, I have used many free and paid antivirus programs and have had mixed results with them. I had a client who installed AVG on her computer but six months later her PC got infected with a malicious virus and wiped out everything from her drives. I have found Micro Anti Virus to be the most effective anti virus program. The best thing about this software is that it updates automatically and frequently. You should buy anti virus programs from a company which releases frequent updates for new virus definitions since new viruses are discovered almost everyday! And here are some ways to keep your PC safe from viruses:
1. Don’t open email attachments from unknown senders. There are some people out there who know nothing better than sending viruses to unsuspecting users through email attachments. Beware of the bogus names of the attachments, and even the more bogus tone of the letter. In 90% of cases, such email attachments have been found to be infected with deadly viruses.
2. Don’t download stuff from adult sites unless you absolutely have to! Most adult sites are notorious for infecting the users’ PCs with viruses and spywares. If you really need to download stuff from an adult site, be sure to check the site’s reputation first. This can be easily done by doing a search on Google.
3. You should avoid downloading peer-to-peer software programs such as Kazaa, Bearshare, WinMX or any other P2P program. People who use these programs often get their computers infected with viruses. The fault is not with the software itself, but the sites from which you are downloading stuff with the help of the P2P program. And always scan all files before opening or running them on your computer.
4. Remember that I told you earlier that you should buy antivirus programs from a company which releases frequent software updates. Ideally, you should get at least one year of free upgrade with your purchase. Most antivirus programs come with an in-built automatic update tool which automatically updates the software for you. However, in my experience, you should never rely on auto update, because the auto update tool updates your antivirus program several days AFTER the update has been released. You should always manually check for new updates.
