The type of diet for diabetes high cholesterol recommended by doctors in order to keep the blood lipids of a person under control differs from patient to patient. Nonetheless, in this article I will point out some of the most common ways to control blood lipids.
1. Eat the right food: Try to limit the amount of fatty foods you eat. In fact I would suggest you try to include foods which have saturated fats. Examples of such foods are fatty meats, poultry skin, butter, ice cream, cheese, palm oil, coconut oil, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, etc. If you want to include dairy products in your diet, choose only those which have a low amount of fat in them, or even better, are completely fat-free. You can also include lean meats and meat substitutes such as chicken without the skin, lean beef such as flank steak or chuck roast, boiled ham etc., in your diet. Fishes like mackerel, rainbow trout, sardines, and salmon are absolute best for your heart as they contain fat that protect your heart instead of destroying it. You can also include foods which are rich in fiber, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, or whole grains such as oatmeal, oat bran, dried beans, peas etc.
Foods like egg yolks, high-fat meat and poultry, liver and other organ meats, and high-fat dairy products like whole milk are usually rich in cholesterol and you must avoid these types of foods at all costs.
2. Lose weight: Eating the right types of food is only part of the whole game. You should also take proper steps to shed off excess fat from your body. One way to do this is to choose low-fat foods as instructed above. Another way to lose weight is to increase the level of daily activities by doing exercises and workouts regularly. Aerobic exercises and strength training are some of types of exercises you can do in order to burn your calories and lose weight. If you are just starting out, you can take a simple walk of about thirty minutes from your home to to marketplace and back. Believe me, even a short walk will help you burn more calories than you can imagine!
I would also suggest you consult with your local physician as to which types of exercises would be best for you.
3. Abstain from alcohol: You should try to abstain from alcohol completely. Alcohol is known to trigger heart related problems. If at all you cannot stop drinking alcohol altogether, you should take no more than one or two servings per day.
You should also quit smoking.
